Name suppression has lifted on a West Coast man facing 14 historic sex charges.

Andrew Laurie Drew faces nine rape allegations and has been remanded to a pre-trial call-over on August 16.

He has had interim name suppression until today when Christchurch District Court Judge Jane Farish lifted the order after hearing argument from defence counsel Tony Greig and Crown prosecutor Pip Currie.

However, she continued suppression on all other details relating to Drew and his background, and some details relating to the charges.

The West Coast farmer denies nine charges of rape, two of attempted rape, one abduction for sex, one assault with intent to commit rape, one indecent assault, and two firearms charges.

The offending is alleged to have occurred between 1971 and 1988.

Drew remains in custody.
