Two men charged with unlawful possession of counterfeit banknotes have made appearances in the Christchurch District Court.

The pair – both from out of Christchurch – were alleged to have offended in the city on Monday.

Simon Darryl Bryant, 28, a fisherman from Nelson, and Isaac Vaughn Wilson, 29, a coach builder from Rakaia, were jointly charged with unlawful possession of 19 forged $50 notes, one $100 note, one $20 note, and a $5 note.

Wilson is also charged with using a fake $50 note as if it were genuine.

No pleas were entered.

Police did not oppose bail for Bryant and he was remanded to July 3, to live in Nelson and not associate with the alleged co-offender.

Wilson made no application for bail and was remanded in custody to appear again by video-link on July 8.
