Court House-07A man has denied a charge of robbery of a wallet and two cell phones while using a firearm after an incident in North Canterbury last week.

Police allege Jed Mathew Waghorn, a 21-year-old plasterer, was charged with being one of two people armed with a sawn-off shotgun who robbed a man between Cust and Pegasus on December 6.

Armed police responded to the victim’s complaint, and the two were arrested at a property in Burnt Hill Road, Oxford. They were both charged with aggravated robbery.

Waghorn’s alleged co-offender, 27-year-old Karla Melissa McDonald, was granted bail at her last appearance in court, and remanded to appear in court again on December 29.

Waghorn pleaded not guilty in the Christchurch District Court yesterday and was remanded in custody by Judge Brian Callaghan to a bail hearing on December 30.

He elected trial by jury and his Crown case review hearing was scheduled for March 7.
