Police logo-05A man arrested after a dog was shot dead by police during a search warrant raid on premises in Yaldhurst Road has denied all charges.

Dean Walter Louis, a 29-year-old farm hand who lives at the Yaldhurst Road address, entered the not guilty pleas before a registrar at the Christchurch District Court today.

The registrar remanded him on continued bail for a case review hearing – the next step on the way to trial – on July 19.

The incident happened on April 6 when the police closed off part of Yaldhurst Road for two hours to search the property.

While they were at the property, police alleged an eight-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier attacked a police dog and officers and was then “shot and destroyed”. The officers and the police dog did not receive any significant injuries.

Louis was charged with unlawful possession of two .22 rifles, intentional obstruction of a police constable, and breach of bail.
