A woman charged with two house burglaries has been granted bail at the Christchurch District Court three days after a warrant was issued for her arrest.
The 43-year-old woman, Amanda Cherie Cook, of central Christchurch, complained at court today that the warrant had been issued after a muddle at the Court House on Friday.
She said she had come along to court, checked in, applied for legal aid, and then left after a discussion about her bail conditions, when a police officer said she was allowed to go.
In fact, she was still to be processed at the registrar’s counter for a remand, and for her bail details to be set out.
She was arrested and brought to court this afternoon, when police did not oppose bail and she was allowed to leave. Bail conditions were imposed for her to live at her central city address, report to the police station three times a week, and not go within 500m of Somerville Crescent in Aidanfield, near Halswell – scene of one of her alleged burglaries.
Cook is charged with the burglary of a house in Somerville Crescent on June 2, and being found unlawfully in a yard at Somerville Crescent on May 31. She is charged with burglary of a house in Waipara Street, Cracroft, on May 31.
She also faces two charges of stealing petrol from the same petrol station.
Cook was remanded without plea, to appear at court again on July 11.
