Court House-general 3New robbery charges have been laid against two men previously charged with a street robbery.

The charges were laid as three men charged with the aggravated robbery of three teenage boys of their cellphones, clothing, money and cards made remand appearances in the Christchurch District Court.

All of them remain in custody after the video-link appearances from Christchurch Men’s Prison.

Shane Kavanaugh, 24, was remanded without plea by Judge Brian Callaghan on charges of aggravated robbery, driving with excess breath-alcohol, driving while disqualified, and breach of community work, to March 7.

Gordon Julian Herbert, a 22-year-old from Phillipstown, was remanded without plea to March 3, on charges of unlawfully taking a car, failing to stop for police, reckless driving, driving without a licence, assaulting a person with a blunt instrument, and aggravated robbery.

Police laid four new robbery charges yesterday, alleging that on January 17, Herbert and Kereopa Hune robbed two people of $400, and robbed three people of keys, cell phones, and a Playstation.

Hune, who is a 28-year-old scaffolder from Linwood, was facing charges of unlawfully getting into a car, and aggravated robbery, and now faces the two new charges with Herbert.

He pleaded not guilty to all his charges and was remanded to a Crown case review hearing on April 18.

Two of the men, Hune and Herbert, were arrested at the end of a car chase brought to a stop with road spikes and a crash into a pole, in Beckenham, on January 20.
