Charges continue to mount against a woman already at court over a stolen mail investigation.
Six new charges were laid when Anna Leigh Hunter, a 36-year-old who now lives in Christchurch, made a remand appearance in the Christchurch District Court today.
The new charges allege she has stolen mail items or opened a mail item not addressed to her between December 6 and 8 at Swannanoa in rural Canterbury.
Police said in a statement in December that they had found more than 70 pieces of stolen mail while executing a search warrant at a Diamond Harbour property.
The investigation followed months of reports of mail being taken, and a stolen credit card being used to buy groceries, cigarettes, alcohol, and petrol.
Hunter was charged in December and remanded without plea on 31 charges of dishonestly using credit cards in Christchurch, one of attempting to dishonestly use a credit card, two of receiving credit cards and being reckless about whether they were stolen, and one of possession of a pipe for smoking methamphetamine.
The police allege the offending took place from September to December.
When she made a remand appearance in January, the police had laid two charges of dishonestly using $100 supermarket gift vouchers, three charges of stealing mail, and four charges of opening postal articles not addressed to her.
The latest charges mean she now faces a total of 50 charges. She has entered no pleas, and at the request of defence counsel Donald Dickson she was remanded on bail for a further appearance and pleas on April 5.
In December, she was living at Diamond Harbour but she has now had her bail address varied to live in Mairehau, Christchurch.
