A man allegedly found with improvised bombs, ammunition, and knives in an incident that closed part of Phillipstown on April 30, was denied electronically monitored bail at a hearing in the Christchurch District Court today.
Jay Michael Harding-Reriti, 33, had been charged with unlawful possession of a handheld improvised explosive device, unlawful possession of 45 .22 calibre rounds, unlawful possession of an improvised explosive device and a detonator cord, unlawful possession of powergel explosive and detonator cord, and unlawful possession of two knives and a credit card knife in public.
The devices were found at an empty section, which led to the New Zealand Defence Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit being called out, and part of Phillipstown being evacuated and cordoned off.
Harding-Reriti was denied bail at his appearance in court on May 1, and today was denied his application for electronically monitored bail by Judge Tom Gilbert.
He was remanded in custody to appear at a case review hearing on July 9.
